Well what a wonderful start to the day - well apart from a couple of downsides which I may go on to talking about - don't really like to get involved in negative vibe stuff though if I can help it. We'll see.

My very good friend Marj Burden has been sharing my latest blog post/extract to steampunk friends and family!! It's realy quite wonderful when someone values what you do to the extent that they feel others would get something out of it as well. Bless you Marj you are a shining star and it is a real privelage to be classed as your friend'.

Woke for breakfast and noticed that Alex was out. Of course today is Monday - his Leeds market day and his car is not on the drive (a special one designed by the local community and is made up of; broken glass, house bricks, lumps of granite, discarded bags of Semtex, roadkill, a liberal assortment of used *contraceptives and several shotgun cartridges from drive by shootings".

Imagine my surprise then when I walked into his bedroom to check on Nigel the cat. "Hello sweetie"" I called out. 'Hello" came the reply. What the hell!! A talking cat - my brain is fucked!! Bloody Alex! Still in bed. "What the hell are you doing here you scared the shit out of me?" Not going in today apparently since kitty cat is too vulnerable plus has a trip to the vet later on. I made my apologies and slid out of the room space invader stylee.

Right I need my arse kicking! Why? Because I realise that, despite my blog website/Facebook Blog page, having 'Steampunk' in the title I don't seem to have put a great deal in that is steampunk related. Surpised someone hasn't complained or suggested I kick myself of my own Facebook page - "Cheating swine! removeth thyself from thine own Facebook page for thou art a cheap bastard who hath not kept his promise to write about steampunk". Time to rectify!! Retrospectively that is...

Where to start!!! I mean there is just so much that goes on! But, because friendships are important, I'm going to start with my new friend Aby Lucy. I first met Aby at Calderdale Industrial Museum in Halifax for the Leeds Steampunk Markets Steampunk Weekend when I politely introduced myself/discovered we had mutual interests/accidently tripped over her legs causing the table to collapse and smashing several items that had taken her weeks to make (*choose the one you think most likely).

* You bastards!! You chose the last one didn't you!!!

I then discovered she was opposite my pitch at Haworth Village Hall. Good, I like a friendly face - especialy a friendly, smiley, good natured, chatty and extremely pretty face! - I'm hopeless with people who are quiet, I just have no idea what to say to them, it's as if I feel that everything I ask will be regarded as a dumb or stupid question. My usual response is to make my excuses and walk away.

I should explain what Aby trades in - especialy as it seems to be her key social interest as well. She sells very well made accesories for people who play Dungeons and Dragons games; dice holders, dice trays, the dice themselves etc. It's clear that she is also passionate about what she does - the care she takes over wrapping and packaging an item for a customer, the way she chats to people to show she is genuinaly interested in them, the catalogue displaying her wares for customers who wish to order from her or purchase an item that isn't currently available, the cute little chalkboard signs with clearly marked items and prices and useful information like "Trayed & Tested!"

It would appear that Aby's courtesy seems to extend to all people! A list went round at the start of the day asking people what sandwiches they would like from a local shop. Aby wrote ;Bacon sandwich' followed by 'well done'! wasn't that nice? complementing the cook before she's even had the chance to chow down on the sandwich!! Lovely girl!

On a more serious note one thing people might not know about Aby is that she is very lucky to be alive today - in fact if it wasn't for her dad she might not have been. In 2018 Aby needed a new kidney - fortunately her dad was a compatible donor and was able to give one of his to Aby. I have only met her dad very brielfy a couple of times - but he seems quiet, soft spoken and unassuming, you would never guess from looking at him that he had saved his daughters life. Heroes come in all forms.

Not surprisingly Aby is very keen on promoting awareness of kidney donation (in fact all types of live organ donation). especially as it is often a taboo subject - to talk about donating an organ means to acknowledge the inevitablility of your own death. Havng said this the law is set to change, in the future (next year to be precise) organ dontation will be compulsory at death (though there will be an option to opt out).
